Is now the right time for you to transition to an EV fleet?

More people are joining the Electric Vehicle (EV) revolution as they look to make a meaningful contribution to a sustainable future. Organisations wanting to minimise their impact on the environment, or have targets to reach Net Zero, are leading the charge by making the move away from petrol and diesel fleets. And new legislation offering additional savings for EVs makes it an even more attractive proposition.

So if you’ve been tossing up whether EVs are the right choice for your fleet, take a look below. We’ve put together some of the reasons why it might be time to make the switch.

You could contribute to a greener future

With fleet vehicles making a significant contribution to total emissions each year, you could make a real difference with a change to electric. Electric fleets have fewer emissions, meaning that you’d create less pollution and help lead the charge towards net zero.

You could save on running costs

Transitioning to an electric fleet could also be a great way for you to reduce your ongoing vehicle expenses. With less parts to worry about, you should have fewer servicing costs and your vehicles should spend less time off the road. Refuelling should work out better, too, with the lower cost of charging with electricity compared to filling up with petrol. Some estimates even indicate savings of 70% on fuel and 40% on maintenance.

You could save on tax

As the federal government ramp up their efforts to support the take up of EVs, there are a number of incentives and rebates available for organisations looking to transition to EVs. Making the transition to EVs could provide significant tax incentives for eligible vehicles. Click below to find out more about the support available in your state or territory:

The Electric Car Fringe Benefits Tax Exemption legislation passed in November 2022. Any eligible new EVs purchased after 1 July 2022 or second-hand EVs first held or used after the same date will be exempt from the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) if they fall below the luxury car tax threshold ($84,916 in 2022-23). Any import tariffs (where previously applicable) will also be waived. This will reduce the cost of EVs for fleet-operated businesses because the exemption from FBT is applicable to EVs where the employer is providing benefit vehicles to their employees and those vehicles have a private use component.

Discounts will be available to the following types of EVs below the threshold:

  • Battery Electric Vehicles;
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (exemption will end on April 1st 2025, with exemptions being applied for existing leases until they expire)
